We are beyond excited to announce the imminent launch of Versatus LASR, the world’s first Stateless Rollup.

Versatus LASR is made up of 3 core components:

  1. An off-chain, decentralized, pure compute network
  2. App-specific nano-runtimes powered by unikernel VMs enabling language-agnostic smart contracts
  3. Executable Oracle contracts that batch snapshots of underlying chain data and ingest batches of verified deltas of the data to settle results onto the base chain.

A 4th component, scalable external Data Availability, enables a network of stateless verifiers to sample, prove transaction data, and blow the whistle against faulty and/or malicious actors.

These 4 components combine to enable fee-abstracted, low-cost, infinitely scalable, language-agnostic smart contract execution.

The Need for Versatus LASR: Embracing Innovation in a Constrained Ecosystem

The blockchain ecosystem, while experiencing favorable market trends recently, faces a deeper, more structural challenge: the scarcity of developers. Despite Ethereum’s smart contracts heralding a new era of “web3” eight years ago, the anticipated surge in decentralized application development has been modest. As of October 2023, the number of developers engaged in blockchain is notably low, with less than 20,000 developers in total, and fewer than 6,500 contributing full-time.

This decline goes beyond numbers; it highlights significant barriers faced by developers in embracing blockchain technology. Our research, conducted by Centiment (survey), reveals that a major hindrance is the limited language options available for blockchain development. While Solidity and Rust are the most popular, they represent just a fraction of the broader programming landscape, leaving out widely used languages such as Python, JavaScript, and Java.

Enter Versatus LASR, a revolutionary platform addressing these very challenges head-on. Versatus LASR isn’t just another blockchain platform; it’s a solution to empower developers. By expanding the language and tooling options, we lower the entry barriers, inviting a diverse range of developers to contribute their creativity and expertise to the blockchain world.

The traditional coupling of compute and consensus in blockchain has limited developer participation. Versatus LASR dismantles this barrier, creating a welcoming space for developers from various backgrounds. We’re not just enhancing the development experience; we’re democratizing it, making blockchain technology accessible and engaging for a global community of developers.

In essence, Versatus LASR is more than a technological leap; it’s a catalyst for the growth and diversification of the blockchain developer community. We’re not just building a platform; we’re building a community where innovation thrives, and web3 becomes a realm of limitless possibilities.

An Additional Taste of Our Tech

Beyond app-specific nano-runtimes, the Versatus compute network uses an innovative multi-LLMQ driven consensus mechanism called “Farmer-Harvester BFT” to scale horizontally by parallelizing execution & verification of compute results among small groups of staking nodes. Left-Right concurrency control to vertically scale with memory and CPU power is also used to optimize throughput. To learn more about the full technology stack employed in this decentralized stateless execution layer, you can read our whitepapers published on our website versatus.io

If you’re looking for a shorter read than the whitepaper, but one with more details on how LASR actually works, subscribe to our medium here, as we will release more information on the product specifications in the days and weeks ahead.

Versatus LASR’s extensible architecture makes it flexible enough to keep up with any trends while maintaining security to enable trust from the developer community.

Wen Stateless Rollup?

Versatus LASR will move into the testnet phase on Ethereum and select EVM chains, using EigenDA in January 2024, and will be releasing private documentation for beta developers in mid-December for the first 7 languages enabled: Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, C, C++, Go and Rust with more to follow shortly.

Applications for beta developers are now open.
